Enforcing Ignorance In Our Nation's Youth, Yes or No?
The current anti-gay measure on the ballot in California, Proposition #8, would reject the recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down the previous outlawing of gay marriage, due to it's unconstitutional nature. I am not sure what bothers me more, the idea that these "Christians" (haters is more like it) want to waste my time and yours making a new law that ought to also be struck down by a court, or the fact that they are prostituting children to do it, or the way they are apparently in favor of promoting ignorance in the nation's young people.
The ad campaign they have been running suggests that marriage is a regular part of the school curriculum, ipso facto, now that marriage is a Human Right and not just a Hetero Right, little Jane and Johnny will have to learn about it in school! I will spare you the various arguments about why it might be better to learn about an emotionally charged issue like this in an environment where you are more likely to see a wider range of opinions vs. a home environment where you would see a point of view taught, in all likelihood, rather than actual facts.
If schooling hasn't changed too too drastically since I was attending grade school at Escondido Village Elementary, marriage is not even a part of the curriculum.
More to the point, isn't a school for learning, anyway? Even learning about stuff you don't necessarily agree with? This stick your head in the sand and vote for hate philosophy seems to be what got us to where we are atm; how's that working for you?
From here it looks a little scary.
Vote No on 8. I did. You can too. It will make your kids smarter, and your world friendlier.
