Sultan of Substance; I am finally getting it!

From rushlimbaugh.com:
"Mrs. Clinton -- I don't know if you've noticed -- is looking more and more like a women's basketball coach every day. This is not good."

My dad recommended Countdown w/Keith Olbermann to me last year when I visited for a funeral. Since then I have become a fan of the show, but I was puzzled by Olbermann's continual referencing of Rush Limbaugh as "the comedian."

Rush, the infamous drug addict and doctor shopper, always struck me as a more hateful person than that, and not terribly amusing. More of a person to be ignored where possible, and endured where necessary.

Today, following up on a vituperative-sounding quote from Mr. Limbaugh I found on the Doonesbury site, I discovered that he is indeed way over the top and so, "the comedian" is certainly an appropriate appellation. I copied the quote directly from the page on Limbaugh's site linked in the title of this entry. The page is filled with more gems of the comedian's. I presume he employs a full-time writing staff; no single person could ever come up with this much on a single day, alone. No reasonable human being, anyway.

A lot of his material isn't that funny, but taken as a whole, he is clearly going for the laughs. Nobody could possibly be as hateful as he sounds. Well, maybe Ann Coulter, but that's another blog entry.

Some would say, perhaps, that this quote above is a masterful use of cultural prejudices and innuendo. These same naysayers would probably say he cannot possibly be trying to be funny, but rather, he is trying to be hateful. I'll grant you: Funny, it's not, but he's trying.

Maybe Comedy Central can have a Special night for comedians like him one night. Call it Shortbus Comedy or something like that. Just a thought.
